Welcome to G Holmes Braddock ’s Culinary Arts Program .
We have exciting news and events about the upcoming year.
There have been significant changes to the Culinary Arts Program during the summer, the most important is the Culinary Arts Curriculum and the local, state, and federal mandates for industry certification of Career Technical Education Programs and students.
Industry certification is important because it validates the education you are receiving by the industry norms or standards. Once you graduate with a standard diploma and become industry certified you are one step closer to being career/college ready. You will be a step closer to being able to secure a job that may help your future in one way or another in your life.
Rigor in the curriculum has also been emphasized, so expect more core curriculum embedded in the CTE curriculum to be emphasized and reinforced daily.
We will be working with volunteer organizations to instill the volunteer spirit in our students.
This year we will be competing in Skills USA which is one of the Career Technical Education Student Organizations student can participate in.
We will be participating in many other school activities as well as contests.
Additionally this year the Culinary Arts class will have a lab fee of $20.00 which will cover the cost of supplies for the school year. The Culinary Arts program is a self funding program, which means we get a very minimal funding allocation for the year and it does not cover the cost of operating the program. Therefore; we have established this fee which will allow the program to focus more on the educational and learning aspect of Culinary Arts and not have to concentrate on funding the program.
The Culinary Arts program is a career prep program, it is operated as such and the equipment and surroundings are the same you would find in many commercial kitchens. It is imperative that safety rules are followed 100%, all of the time!
